Chapter forty-five

ANTIQUE ROADSHOW

MALAKAI

I feel like I’m crawling out of my skin by the time Dom and Ray are back. I’ve engrossed myself in getting some work done, so I’m locked away in my office. In a common show of pettiness, I decide I am going to wait in here and continue to work until one of them comes for me. I’m extra. You get what you get with me. We have several houses for sale in the city and across the county so I organize one sheets, select photos, build the website links, and schedule appointments for showings. My office space at home isn’t huge, but it’s perfect for me. I prefer to do my work from here, where I’m close to my comfort things and to safety. I generally only go into the office if one of the guys need me, and only go out for work when it’s for a showing. I do enjoy that part of the job. People think I’m likable and funny, so it’s a good fit. I can hear moving around downstairs, but it’s a while before I hear soft knocking on the door.

“Malakai, it’s me.” I hear a sweet voice and I know soon I'll be met with the scent of winter.

“You can come in, sweetheart,” I respond. My pettiness ends here.

She pops her head in and smiles at me. My heart skips a beat and butterflies feel like they’ve been let free in my stomach. Here she is, in my office, standing in my door. She’s wearing forest green silk pajamas. To be specific they are a set with a tank top and shorts. She’s trying to kill me. She has to be. She has glasses on. She’s definitely trying to kill me.

“What are you up to?” She steps all the way into the space.

“Just getting some work done. I was getting impatient waiting for you and Dom.”

She blushes, “Sorry. I’m back now though.” She smiles again.

“I see that. You look awfully cute. Are you going to be cold in that get up?” I gesture toward said get up. What I've now named Kai Killers.

“Get up? These are just pajamas.” She raises her eyebrow.

“Compared to what you wore to bed last night? That’s a get up. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I’m sure my brothers love it too.” I grin and make sure it has just a hint of sex appeal in it.

She rolls her eyes, “I run hot, Malakai. I own this in about 150 colors. It’s the perfect set.”

“Oh fuck me,” I say under my breath. She shoots me a glare, so I’m guessing she heard me. “I don’t think you’ll be the only one running hot, sweet cheeks.”

“Oh, Jesus. They are just pajamas!” She throws her hands up.

“And I said you looked cute! Although, I could use a lot of other words, too. I was just trying to be modest.” I say in a fake placating tone.

“That’s what they call you, Modest Malakai.” Her tone is serious, but the moment she finishes the sentence she is laughing.
